Founded in 1961 by Merritt and Phyllis Long, Matanuska Valley Collection Service began as an accounts receivable collection service for local medical providers. Through the years, the Longs broadened their client base to include retail accounts, bad checks, commercial receivables and personal debts. Merritt's methods of recovery included repossessions and aggressive use of the court system.

The Longs continued operation of MVCS until 1990, when daughter Jo moved back to Palmer with her family. By 1992, Jo and Mike Weller were the sole owners of the business. They continue to service all types of debts, and have kept pace with technological changes in the business world.
