     Newhalen Lodge is located approximately 185 , miles (about 1 to 1 1/2 hours flight time) southwest of Anchorage in one of Alaska's most scenic regions. (click for map)  It is situated on Six-Mile Lake near Nondalton between Lake Iliamna and Lake Clark. This incredible region is recognized as perhaps the finest fishing area in North America. It is famous for its trophy rainbow trout and the largest sockeye salmon run in the world.

     The main area of the lodge focuses on the spectacular view of Six-Mile Lake and Roadhouse Mountain and has a spacious seating area where guests may enjoy a completely stocked complimentary bar and nightly hors d'oeuvres. There is also a separate TV/video viewing center, and 24hour telephone/fax services are available.

     Some of the best cooking in North America takes place here with one of Alaska's top chefs. Our Newhalen Lodge chef prepares meals that rival some of North Americas top culinary locations and experts. Breakfasts can be hearty or light, as you prefer. Evening meals feature two mouth-watering main entree choices along with appropriate side dishes and "to-die-for" desserts. Special dietary meals are available upon request.

Service and Equipment

    A total of five aircraft, three planes on floats and two on wheels, are available for the exclusive use of our guests.

     Our experienced pilots have thousands of hours of Alaska airtime and also serve as knowledgeable guides. Newhalen Lodge only hires the best guides available. Most of our guides have been with Newhalen Lodge for several years and are familiar with all the streams and rivers in the Bristol Bay area.

     We have more than two dozen boats on the top streams and rivers throughout the Bristol Bay watershed. Some days you are flown in and then travel by boat to the best fishing area. Raft float trips are a popular, enjoyable alternative. These are day floats with an experienced guide through pristine wilderness that has excellent fishing in addition to spectacular scenery.

     Occasionally, the weather prohibits flying. Fortunately, one of Alaska's top rainbow streams is just a short boat ride away from the lodge.
