BURN BABY BURN

Two days of non-stop burning fun !!

This year, we're finally going to do it -- undertake Phase II of the remodel of our little Turnagain hovel!

Phase I was undertaken 1997, to make room for Liv once we got married and Sara and Liv moved up from Juneau.  Phase I involved finishing the basement. We had plans for the upstairs but the money went only so far. Alas, Phase II would have to wait a while.

The new millennium brought about the prospect of acting on our long-cherished plans.  Succinctly stated, Phase II would involve punching out further into the back yard.  To create that bigger bedroom and walk-in closet that Sara fantasizes about.  And it would go right into the area where two old spruce trees presently stood. They would have to be removed.

Sara contacted the power company and got them to come out and fell the trees. They were leaning into the feed line serving our house and the power company was only too happy to come out and take them down. The job took two days, but finally it was done.

All that's left of two 50+-year old spruce trees

Then, Sara contacted the municipality and obtained a free burn permit. And during the weekend of March 4 and 5, we burnt the heck out of the limbs and branches. We smoked out the whole neighborhood. It was incredible but worth it. To chip and dispose of the two trees would cost upwards of a thousand dollars. Honest! All we have to deal with now is a pile of ash.  Two fellow Turnagain residents came over and hauled away the wood.

Thanks go to Sara's brother Al and her cousin Mark. Without them on Saturday, the job would have been a lot more difficult!

This fire-stoking business can make a fellow thirsty!
