Prisca's Chihuahuas

Welcome!

My name is Priscilla Pope and I live on the Kenai Peninsula. I decided on the name of Prisca's Chihuahua's because "Prisca" was the "pet" name for Priscilla in the Christian Bible, which I believe in.

The chihuahua's intelligence, spirit and true loyalty have been well known since they were first introduced into the United States, but do you know that it is the only dog that is believed to have descended from a fox, instead of a wolf?

My chihuahuas are a precious part of my life and are members of our family. I do not keep my dogs in kennels, but have my dogs with me, inside our home, where they have access to the fenced in back yard.

A couple of years ago, I joined the Kenai Kennel Club, in order to learn more about showing. I have spent a lot of time doing research on this breed and I am making every effort to uphold the AKC standard through responsible breeding, which is an on going learning process.

My girls have their own page containing information, photo's and lineages. Please take a look at the pedigree's, which show the years of hard work and successful achievements of Rita Geiger. If I could learn just half of what she knows about breeding and showing, then I will be more successful than I had originally ever dreamed! Only thru her kindness and generosity have I been able pursue this dream of showing these wonderful little dogs. Her great achievements are very apparent when you view the pedigrees of the two bitches that she has allowed me to buy as my foundation. They are preceeded by many, many Champions!

Each of my dogs are examined and cared for by a veterinarian on a regular basis, in order to keep them healthy. For my puppies, I make sure that the dew claws are removed, immunization shots are given, and worming is done. I may eventually have puppies for sale to qualified homes, but at this time, I plan to keep and show the pups to their full potential.

Update: After showing both my chihuahua puppy Reba and Chance, a Papillon pup, at the 3-day Fairbanks show in May, I found out that I have inherited my mom's bad knees. Apparently, I will be unable to show any of my dogs myself. My knees got so bad during the show that I had to use the safety handle on the trailer, just to be able to go in or out of it. I was afraid of my knees collapsing at any time and the pain was becoming excruiating. It took over a week after the show to even get the pain reduced to half of what it had been. Most likely, I will eventually need to have my knees replaced, just like my Mom has. *sigh*

Newest Update! I have been talking with a young lady that has been checking into the chihuahua breed and she's decided that she'd like to start showing them. She has shown a few different breeds, including a shiba inu to it's championship, but the dog will be moving down to the lower 48 with her parents. We are working out the details still, but in the meantime, Jenny will be showing Reba in the Palmer 3-day dog show in August!
