Who We Are

Christ’s church is not a denomination. It was not created by men nor does it follow the creeds, doctrines, or philosophies of men. We follow Christ, and our creed is the Bible, which is the Word of God. You do not join Christ’s church; you are added to it by Christ as you complete your obedience to His plan of salvation.

At South Anchorage church of Christ you will find:

A Place for Friendship

Nothing quite compares to the joy of Christian friendship. That is why we make it a priority to build lasting bonds between the members of our church family – bonds of concern and genuine commitment to one another. Best of all, this circle of care is ever widening. We’d love for it to include you, too.

A Place for Learning

To us, studying the Bible is vital because it not only instructs us intellectually, but also guides us spiritually. We believe it and accept it as God’s Word to Man, a book that is alive and relevant to life today. Learning its truths is a thrilling adventure.

A Place for Enrichment

For every person at every age level we offer a wealth of opportunities: special programs for children, youth and adults, which fill the church calendar. You can be sure that in this kaleidoscope of activities there is more one place where you can be personally enriched.

A Place for Service

Just a Jesus Christ came “not to be ministered unto, but to minister…” we accept our responsibility to reach our in service to others. This applies both within the church family and outside the church family.

A Place for Worship

The primary reason we meet together is to focus our attention on God, giving Him our worship and receiving His blessings and inspiration. Each of these occasions is a special time of spiritual refreshment.

Our Major objective is to honor Christ, teaching the truth of His Word so that everyone can have spiritual freedom. As people who belong to Christ we would like to share with you a Bible description of what Christ’s church is all about.

The Bible is to be taught:
John 8:32; John 17:17
Unity:
1 Corinthians 1:10
Christ is followed:
Colossians 1:13-18
We are just Christians:
Acts 11:26
How we worship:
John 4:24

In worship you will notice:

  • We sing without musical instruments. The instrument used is the heart.(Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16-17; Hebrews 2:12)
  • Observance of the Lord's supper every Lord's Day. (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-27)
  • We pray. (Acts 2:42)
  • Preaching. (2 Timothy 4:1-2)
  • We give as we have prospered. (1 Corinthians 16:1-2)

God's design for salvation is taught:

  • Must have faith. (Hebrews 11:6)
  • Must repent. (Luke 13:3)
  • Confess Christ to be the Son of God. (Acts 8:37)
  • Immersed in water to wash away our sins. (Acts 22:16)

    Leadership in Christ's church is:

  • First - elders, overseers, bishops, or pastors. (1 Timothy 3; Titus 1; Acts 20:22-28)
  • Second - deacons. (1 Timothy 3)

In Christ's church the minister is not referred to as a Pastor unless he has met the requirements of 1 Timothy 3 or Titus 1. The minister has no more power than just a regular member of Christ's church.

  • "Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, handling aright the word of truth."--

    II Timothy 2:15, ASV 1901
