Steelhead

Steelhead, or sea run Rainbow Trout, grow quite large while feeding for several years in the Pacific Ocean.  Once they reach maturity they return to spawn in southeast Alaska streams in April and May. The photo to the left shows Bob's father displaying a nice fish that he had just landed.

The photo to the right shows Bob's father gently holding the Steelhead in the current to revive it so that it can continue on its way to spawn. Nice Steelhead, like this one, are relatively few in number, so we put them all back.  It wouldn't take too long to wipe out the brood stock if every fisherman killed the fish he caught.
