Musk Ox

Wendy shot this magnificent bull Musk Ox on Nunivak Island in the Bering Sea on the first day of March, 1999.  She took it with Bob's 300 Winchester Magnum caliber Ruger Model M77 bolt-action rifle loaded with 180 grain Nosler Partition bullets in Federal Premium Safari ammunition. Wendy was guided by Fred Don, a locally raised Chupik Eskimo guide.  Fred was instrumental in not only finding a Musk Ox for Wendy to shoot, but also in finding a prime specimen.  A choice bull, like this one, has symmetrical horns with even full bosses and black on the horn tips.  The most memorable aspect of this hunt was the blistering cold temperatures and steady bone chilling wind.  As you can tell from the terrain in the background, there is virtually nothing to shelter a person from the elements.  The expedition parka and many layers of warm clothing that Wendy wore was necessary to keep the trip enjoyable.
