Jake

August 8, 2000 - present

Jake has joined our household as of September 26, 2000.  He is one of six puppies from the litter whelped by the black Labrador Retriever Kate and sired by our dog, Trapper. He is currently a handful. He misses his kennel mates and seems to have bonded to Bob quite well.  He is experiencing a bit of separation anxiety. Seeing that he is only seven weeks of age, it may take a while for him to adjust to his new surroundings.

He hasn't quite got the duck thing figured out yet!

It is amazing how fast a puppy grows! Jake is becoming quite the character. He has found a niche in our "puppy pack". He figures that his job is to chew on things, including the most sensitive areas on his humans' skin.  He is proving to be quite a mellow dog and we suspect that he will be a chip off the old block.  At twelve weeks of age he is not ready yet for formal training; however, he seems to be housebroken and has a pretty good idea of what "come here" and "sit" means.

Here father and son patiently await orders from their mistress.  Actually they are patiently awaiting puppy biscuits. About the only way to get two active dogs to sit still for a photograph is to mesmerize them with food. As a matter of fact, that's how Wendy lured Bob into marriage, using the old rule of "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach", but I digress! As you can see from the photo, Trapper is doing remarkably well, considering that it has been less than eight weeks since major back surgery. About the only remaining sign of his ordeal are the shorter-than-normal patches of hair on his side and rump.  Jake is 14 weeks old in this photo.

More to come, be sure to check back later!
