Backyard Moose

As the winter snows drive moose from their summer range high in the mountains down to lower elevations, a good number of moose take up seasonal residence in the neighborhoods of Anchorage.

This cow moose hopped over a five foot chain link fence into Bob and Wendy's backyard.  It went right to several small crabapple trees and started to eat them to the ground. Bob managed to shoo the moose away from the crabapples.  Here it is feeding on a birch tree.  It was close enough to the porch for Wendy to pet it. But, she decided to enjoy viewing the moose from a few feet back.
