Here
are some of my favorite places. Please
visit them and tell them Rivers sent ya!
If you want to learn to recreation mush
dogs or train to run the Iditarod, then you must contact Lynda Plettner at Plettner Kennels. Lynda’s “Musher’s Boot
Camp” is world renowned. Lynda
taught Mike some mushing techniques which just adds credence to the saying,
“You can teach old dogs new tricks”! Rivers Books is very proud to be a sponsor
of Lynda’s racing endeavors. Lynda is also the founder of the Alaska’s
Iditarod Sled Dog Retirement Foundation (AISDRF) My friend and Iditarod Musher GB Jones has very nice web site that
includes pictures of his dogs and his kennel.
GB has run the Iditarod several times.
Many times, GB will write short stories about life on the Iditarod
trail and post them on his web site.
The Iditarod Trail runs right through his kennel. I am lucky to
have a great fur coat to keep me warm when the weather gets cold, but my
human companions do not and need to use top-notch clothing and sleeping bags
when they are running the trails. My
friends at Wiggy’s
make the best outdoor gear you can get.
It is so good that many branches of our Armed Forces use it. Check it out and tell them Rivers and Mike
sent you. My friend Bill Borden is also an
Iditarod veteran and lives in Check out the Iditarod Home Page. You could even become a member! The
Blind Dogs Site is proof that "Blind
Dogs See With Their Hearts"!
While you are there, check out the web page they did for me at Rivers' Page. IMOM is a Non-Profit organization set up to help sick animals. The Blind Dog fund that helped me is a part of this group. Why not mush by and pay them a visit. Tracks
of Alaska is the home of Phil and Jlona Richey
who took many of the pictures you will see on our web site and
GB’s. Please visit their web
site and enjoy the beauty of
Some more friends to contact:
I hope you write to me. Mike reads the mail to me. It is nice to hear from friends who live
all over the world. I answer all
e-mail personally, using BRS (Bark Recognition Software.) Here is my e-mail address: Rivers@rogershsa.com. We even have a free Rivers’ Newsletter. What to
sign up? Dr. James E. Gaarder DVM/DACVO 907-258-3937 I have many friends at the Blind Dogs E-mail Group Site.
While this site deals mainly with
blind dogs, there is plenty of great dog information on other subjects. It costs nothing to join.
