The jazz divas project started with its first performance in October 2009.  Since then, jazz divas has grown to become a quarterly event featuring experienced singers and beginning singers performing together in the same show with a drummer and me.  I play split keyboard--left-handed bass and right-handed piano, rehearse with all the singers in advance of each show, and work with them to develop a song list for the night that holds the audience’s interest and showcases the talent of every singer.  Artistic license dominates the interpretations of jazz songs each singer brings for the list.  Familiar american songbook favorites are regularly re-styled and arranged in ways that breathe new life into old standards and keeps jazz accessible to listeners.  

The emcee/host advances a relaxed, humorous atmosphere.  Audiences have been extremely supportive of the Jazz Divas.  Singers perform one after another--each performer sings two “mini sets” of 3-4 songs each, so the singers change about every 15-20 minutes. 

As listeners are treated to a great variety of jazz singers and jazz songs, the energy at these performances is overwhelmingly positive.  If you haven’t yet experienced a Jazz Divas performance, reserve a table now for the next one!
