We have a great time breathing new life into old standards and bringing jazz arrangements to more contemporary songs to make jazz accessible to a greater number of listeners. We also enjoy taking requests.
Julie & Jazz will be performing next at Zephyr Restaurant on September 5 with guest drummer Sticks Hacker.

The Julie & Jazz repertoire is essentially jazz standards, american songbook, and bossa nova cocktail-- standards by
Duke Ellington, Cole Porter and George Gershwin are crowd pleasers--we play at least one every set.

Tom Locher is from Juneau and has been playing music around town since the 1970s. His past includes playing dinner piano at the Fiddlehead Restaurant, and keyboard player in a number of local bands. By day, he has a desk job with the state. In addition to playing left-handed bass and right-handed piano with Julie & Jazz, he still plays solo instrumental piano regularly.

American songbook favorites by Rodgers & Hart, Jerome Kern, Hoagy Charmichael, and others round out the Julie & Jazz list of vintage songs. To keep the music interesting, we play a number of vintage songs in a bossa nova style, or switch back and forth between bossa nova and swing styles within the same song. For variety, we also play some jazz waltz and cha cha numbers.

David Sheakley, a local photographer, was born in Juneau, grew up in Pennsylvania, and returned to Juneau about 8 years ago. Of the three members, David has the most formal music education. In addition to his jazz brushes and percussion work with Julie & Jazz, David is drum sergeant for Stroller White Pipes and Drums, and drummer for Fire on McGuiness, a local celtic rock band. His great-grandfather was also a local drummer. The drum set David plays currently includes the the snare drum from his great grandfather's vintage kit.
