Our launch site, Whittier harbor, an ice free port is our gateway to Prince William Sound. In 2000, Alaska
completed the conversion of a (2.5-mile) train tunnel into a combination
highway and train tunnel, putting the sleepy, former military
town within two hours of Anchorage International Airport. With
the tunnel’s opening, Whittier is becoming a Mecca for outdoor
enthusiasts including sport fishermen, kayakers, naturalists,
and now thanks to Star Bound Alaskan Adventures personal watercraft
adventurers. From Whittier harbor the Sound’s 3,000 miles
of shoreline can be explored while riders take in the awe-inspiring–panorama
of the Chugach Mountain range to the east, west, and north. The
physical forces uplifting the Aleutian trench over the past 20
million years coupled with glaciation sculpted this magnificent
coastal mountain range that is rivaled in height only by the Andes
far to the South.
Protected from the Gulf of Alaska by several islands including 50-mile-long Montague, the Sound’s expansive waters are punctuated by deep fiords, numerous freshwater streams feeding rich estuaries, and placid bays that throughout the year team with a wide array of wildlife.
Home to sea otters, harbor seals, Steller sea lions, Killer whales, and Dall and Harbor porpoises, the Sound offers visitors a unique opportunity to escape-from-civilization.

On board PWCs' visitors can enjoy the unspoiled wilderness as a naturalist, sightseer, or sports person. It is in this picturesque-setting that Star Bound Alaskan Adventures promises sights, sounds, and a journey that many PWC aficionados can only dream about.
As the northern border of the Pacific Coast
Rain Forest, Prince William Sound’s coastline supports a
rich mosaic of trees and shrubs. The Alaska yellow cedar, western
hemlock, Aleutian heather, Oregon crab apple, Mountain Ash, and
Alpine tundra are just a few. There’s also an abundant assortment
of lush, nutrient-rich plants, mosses, and lichen nestled in region’s
numerous valleys, peat bogs, beach fringes, and forests that support
an array of mammals and birds.
The Sound is the tromping ground to the Alaskan brown bear, Sitka black-tailed deer, short-tailed weasel, river otter, mink, and wolverine among countless others. Migratory birds also abound, nesting in the Sound’s cliffs and surrounding gravel bars and peat bogs where they feast on the rich assortment of plants and invertebrates along the shore and inland sanctuaries. The sky is filled with mostly water birds such as the Common loon, Marbled and Kitzlitz Murrelets, Horned and Tufted Puffins, Common and Red-breasted Mergansers, Surf and Black Scoters, and Great Blue Herons.
Additionally, the Sound is home to over 20 glaciers terminating at sea level. Columbia, the Sound’s largest tidal glacier saw a dramatic retreat in the mid 1980s, calving at a tremendous rate the icebergs once clogged the surrounding bay. Today, the glacier's terminus is reportedly in contact with seawater 600 ft deep. If the glacier retreats further, some glaciologists predict vigorous calving as the saltwater melts the exposed ice in the 2,000 ft basin behind it. Star Bound Alaskan Adventures is poised to guide those intrepid adventurers to unique photo opportunities that until now were beyond the reach of many traditional cruise ship-tours.
Other calving glaciers that won’t disappoint
those intrepid visitors looking for once-in-a-life-times photo
include Blackstone, Cascade, Barry, and Cox . Astride a PWC, Star
Bound Alaskan Adventurers won’t soon forget the heart-stopping
sound as huge icebergs thunder into the surrounding bay.
