The Star Lookout A Peaceful Retreat with a Quiet Beauty |
|
A few photos from our album and some nice comments from our friends who have stayed with us!
We love to enjoy the sunset and wait for the stars to come out above the warmth of a bonfire. "We are in love with this place! When can we move in? Everything about it is perfect. The comfy bed, awesome view. gorgeous night sky, the fresh herbs from the garden, all the comforts of home, and, of course, our charming hosts, Ray & Barbara. You really do have a piece of heaven here. We will be back again and again." Donne D. & John E., Honolulu, HI.
Rachel tells her Grandpa John stories as the sun sets and the bonfire rises. Please pass the marshmallows! "The Star Lookout hangs in the sky and certainly offers a peaceful retreat to all who stay here. I can feel the earth spin as I watch the sun set and see the meteors fly through the night sky and feel refreshed. It is a wonderful place." Pam E., Anchorage, AK
Ahh! A wonderful way to relax after a busy day of... er... relaxing.
Chris B. & George B., West Bloomfield, MI.
A culinary delight! Enjoy fresh, in-season vegetables and herbs from the garden. '"You plant something in the ground and jump back." said caretaker Ray Bane, wiping his hands as he emerged from the garden at the Star Lookout, a vacation cottage with a sweeping view of the sea. "We tell the guests to take whatever they want from the garden. We can't keep up with it."' Eric Noland, Travel Editor, U-Daily News, 2002.
Once in awhile the neighbors come to visit. "Star Lookout is quite a place - a place I have walked past and dreamed of being here for years. And now I am here - feeling peaceful and at home with the location and the very caring and special caretakers, Barbara and Ray. ... It is difficult to leave the view - the breathtaking, mesmerizing view of Maui - ocean - mountain - clouds and rain. What a blessing to be in this place. I hope to come again." Glen J. & Julie H., Kula, HI.
Elizabeth and Aunt Chris telling stories around the campfire... "Perfect place! We want to come back or move in permanently. We will miss Barbara and Ray and the wonderful "talk story" around the camp fire. Also miss Tai Chi (the cat), fresh strawberries, etc." Ned, Suzie, David & the boys, Honolulu, HI.
Thompson Road invites you to stroll its gentle curves and rolling lava hills. Neighbors come from miles for their daily walk, jog or bike ride down this country lane. Or, you could grab a good book and enjoy the view from the deck of The Star Lookout. "I have never done an "Upcountry" experience on Maui before and I have to say that it was amazing. I loved the peace and quiet this property had to offer. Ray & Barbara (caretakers) were very thoughtful and respected our privacy at all times. I loved waking up & seeing the cows in the field next door and the spectacular view of the island. Before deciding our day's activity, we would look out and see which side of the island had the best weather! Who needs a "weatherman" when you can just look outside and see it all yourself?! If you are looking for a place to get away from the fast-paced, tourist/resort atmosphere, this is your place! (and if you want a little of the fast-paced action, it's just a short drive away!!)" Dana Bracht, Seattle, WA
Views are plentiful at The Star Lookout. No matter which way you look, toward the beach or up the mountain, there's always something interesting to see.
A photographer's dream! Thanks to Tim Woody for these and other photos on this website.
The Star Lookout is surrounded by farmland with lava rock fences unique to the Hawaiian Islands. Don't be surprised to see curious horses watching over your visit.
Lush plantings are home to many birds and the Jackson's Chameleon. This is a large male specimen. Note the Triceratops horns! Females do not have horns. You will have to be patient and look very closely to spot a Jackson's. They are hard to see even by the trained eye.
You won't want to miss the daily light show. Have fun at the beach, hiking the volcano or exploring the rain forest, then race home to watch the sunset.
"Tonic" wishes you a warm Aloha. We hope to see you soon! |
