I currently have three breeding pairs of angelfish. Marble Veil Tail Male (M/M, V/v) x Marble Veil Tail Female (M/M, V/v)
I am very proud of this pair. The male is the most beautiful fish I have raised. He has a large body, is mostly black, and his fins measure 11 inches from tip to tip, dorsal to anal fins. He is from the very first spawn that I raised, and I kept him because he grew rapidly and vigorously, and I liked his very dark coloration. The female is also one that I hatched and raised, and she is more average in size. Both have beautifully shaped fins, incredible colors, and excellent health. Both are about 4 years old, and have mellow personalities. Their offspring are all dark marbles, 50% veil tails, 25% standard tails, and 25% superveils. In the photo above, they have just spawned on the leaf of a plastic Amazon Sword plant, preferring it to the spawning slate (off camera to the left). This pair produces beautiful, healthy babies with spectacular fins. I entered three of their superveil babies in the Tanana Valley State Fair, August, 2002. They took first place, class champion and grand champion. They became free swimming on May 13, and were judged on August 1, at the age of 11 1/2 weeks. See photos on the Gallery page. Koi Veil Tail Male (Gm/Gm, S/S, V/v) x Marble Female Veil Tail (M/M, V/v)
I am raising the first spawn from this pair. When the koi male lost his mate (another koi) I didn't have another koi female to pair him with. I had a very nice marble female who had spawned before, but wasn't currently paired with anyone. I put them together, and voila! They took a liking to each other. Fish from my marble line generally have very good dispositions, and extremely vigorous good health. The kois are also good natured, but seem to be more delicate, especially as young fry. I hope to cross some of the offspring from this pair to develop kois that incorporate more of the marbles' hardiness. Their offspring are technically called "marble ghosts" and look like marbles with more white than the mother. Around the age of 5 months, many of them develop a nice peachy orange crown. The offspring have all three tail types: 25% standard tails, 50% veil tails, and 25% super veil tails. Hybrid Black Male Standard Tail (D/g, v/v) x Koi Female Veil Tail (Gm/Gm, S/S, V/v) I've had this male for over three years, and have been watching for a good mate for him. He was a lucky find at a pet store, and grew very rapidly and vigorously. He has enjoyed excellent health, and has a sweet, mellow personality. He once paired with a marble female that I didn't consider breeding quality. After I sold her, my black guy never paired again. Recently, I tried him one-on-one with a very pretty koi female, and they seem to have taken a liking to each other. They have spawned twice. I am currently raising a few from their first spawn. They produced about 50% hybrid blacks ghosts, and 50% gold marbles. Half of the offspring are standard tail, and half veil tail. I will be raising more from this pair when I have more tank space available.
