Where did Cathey and Stewart first meet? Well believe it or not it was at a snowmobile shop! I was helping a friend with the open house of their new store. They had videos playing on the TV, and I had one of my tapes playing. Cathey started asking me about the crazy guy in the tape and if it was me. By the end of the day I had her helping me take people on test rides..........the rest is history!
I moved to Alaska in the summer of 1972. We had moved from Phoenix, Arizona so it was quite a change for me. In Phoenix our family had a pool in the backyard, now we could have a skating rink! Now after being here all these years, I wouldn't be anywhere else. Maybe some day a house on a beach wouldn't be so bad but for now its snowmachines and cold water for us!
Cathey came up from California in 1991. She loves it here also, so there are no plans to leave. Another reason for not moving is that my job will not let me transfer, if I did I would loose all of my seniority. That's one of the disadvantages to being a UPS driver, which is what I do for a living. Cathey now works for the municipality of Anchorage, so she also has a good job to stay for.
On the pages in our website, you will see what activities that we do. I will also "show and tell" about many of our friends and relatives. I can only hope they all like what is said!!!!!
Of everything we have been doing we've been going snowmachining the longest. I can't think of a way to have fun in the winter that I enjoy more. We get outside and see a lot of Alaska this way. We have some amazing experiences to tell about as well as some great photographs to show you that were taken while we've been out in the snow trying to stay unstuck.
Although I have been interested in World War II aviation since I first moved to Alaska, only recently have I started collecting some books, prints, signatures and a few photographs. I enjoy meeting the pilots themselves the most. The stories they tell will leave you spellbound. It's just an honor to meet them.
The personal watercrafts are like our snowmachines for the summertime. We take them everywhere we can. Lakes, rivers but mainly the ocean. Exploring and taking photos of Alaska's waterways is the main reason we enjoy it so much, and Alaska has a lot to offer in the way of scenery and majestic beauty to absorb and behold.
Cathey and I have been in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for a little more that a year as I write this. We enjoy our time that we spend in the auxiliary immensely. We have met more people and made more friends in the last year because of the auxiliary. Most people underrate and underestimate the Coast Guard Auxiliary, but it is Americas Volunteer Lifesavers. We are very proud to be part of Team Coast Guard!
