The Sterling p-47 Thunderbolt page

Everyone  collects something and I happen to gather as much as I can on the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt. Why the Jug? Well, unless you have an unlimited budget you have to pick 'n choose something that really intrigues you. I started building models at eight and since then I have always been fascinated with WWII aviation. For some reason I would keep reading about "Zemke's Wolfpack" in magazines and books and became focused on the P-47. It was BIG, brawny, powerful, ugly, built like a tank, had 8(not 6) .50cal machine guns, and deadly in the hands of a trained pilot. What more can you ask for? So that's what I decided to base my growing collection on.

I have just about every Thunderbolt book known to man according to Cathey, but I still keep finding others. They pop up here and there in book stores and off the internet. While I also have and get selected other books on WWII aviation, I can't stay away from ones on the Jug. I have prints as well, although I have to be selective because of the price of some of them. There's more of them than wall space though. I also love to meet the pilots from WWII and have many autographs from them. I belong to P-47  Thunderbolt Advocates and the Friends of the American Fighter Ace's and Cathey and I  travel to some of the reunions and symposiums that are put on. Vacation time is prized as well as the budget, which limits those trips. Some day I will have a den that I can display and show off my collection, but until then I am just happy to be able to meet and enjoy the presence of these men and try and preserve some of their history.
