The Sterling Snowmachine page

Both Cathey and I love to ride our snowmachines. From November up until the end of April or beginning of May you can find us out "lost" in the snow. A typical weekend finds us leaving with the camper and sleds on Friday night, playing all day Saturday and most of Sunday. The hard part is always the trip home because you know that the next day is Monday. We do all types of riding.  From putzing around on trails to boondocking to rather extreme mountain riding ,which I prefer. Basically we just explore until the fuel starts running low.

We both have Polaris '99 700RMK's. Hers is stock with electric start, reverse and a front widening kit with four Fox's. Mine is trying to stay stock, but I have the two inch track with the Fox's and the front widening kit. I would love to update my sled, and she would also, but our budget will not allow it. Someday maybe.

The areas that we ride in? Well, just about everywhere. We try to vary the locations, but each year we seem to have a favorite spot to go to. Probably due to snow conditions more than anything else. Look in the Snowmachine photo gallery below to see all the areas  where we go.

I have been riding snowmachines since the winter of 87-88 continuously, but in the early eighties we had a cabin that came with two very old Ski Doo's (one was a 68 and one a 69 and one of them had a Yamaha engine fitted ) so I had a little practice before. My first sled was an early Yamaha V-max, the one with a popup radiator. It was fast, but weighed a ton for a short track. In the 88-89 season I bought a '86 Indy 400SKS. That was a great sled. Because of that sled I stayed with Polaris and I continue to get their sleds because they are familiar to me and the dealer has always been good to me. The next sled was an 650SKS that I bought used and ended up eventually putting more $ in mods and repairs than I would have if I had bought a new sled. It was a good runner though, but was just getting outdated. An Ultra RMK was new the next year in 96 but only lasted a year before the 700Rmk came out in 97. My 1997 700 RMK was the best sled  that I've owned so far. While the 99 700RMK rides better, the 97 ran better.
