ObituaryJoanna Marvin was born Sept. 3, 1834, at Nassau, Rensselaer County, New
York. She was married to Enoch P. Rowley December 8, 1855. Her
deathoccurred March 3, 1909, at her home in Waterman. (IL. I added state)Mr. and Mrs Rowley came to Aurora in 1857 where they lived for eight years
whence they came to this region where their home has since been. To them
were born nine children, seven of whom are still living. One child died in
infancy and one at eight years of age.Mrs Rowley was a kind wife and mother, and loved by all who knew her. For
10 years she has been a consistent and faithful member of the Waterman
Presbyterian church. The surviving members of her family are her husband
and children, Willis A. and Sidney S. of Waterman, Geo. W. of DeKalb, J.
Laville of Lake City, Iowa, Mrs. Ira T. Kirk of Chicago, Mrs. Henry
Bradbury, Oregon, Mrs. J. P. Arnold, Manson, Iowa, Marvin E. and Grant M.
deceased. She also leaves sixteen grandchildren, one brother in Aurora and
2 sisters in New York.The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church Saturday
afternoon at two o'clock where a large company of old friends and neighbors
assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to the loved and lost.The funeral services were conducted by Rev. George Dunlap, pastor of the
church, assisted by Rev E. J. Aiken of the M.E. society. The floral
offerings that covered the pearl gray casket and the available space
thereto were of the choicest roses, carnations and lilies, wrought into
boquets, pillows, a harp and vasrious other handsome and suggestive
designs. The singing was by Mrs. F. A. Brown, Miss Mabel Hipple, Frank
Greeley and Guy Matteson with Miss Rose Greeley as an accomanist.The honorary pallbearers were E. Dean, George Wiltsie, W. M. McFariane,
Hiram Kirkpatrick, H. L. Fuller, O. F. Matteson, A. C. Kauffman, G. L.
Giles, Wm. Wiltberger, J.A. Tallman, C. F. Allen and A. McCaskey.The actual pallbearers were Sidney, Willis and George Rowley, sons of the
deceased and Harry Kirkpatrick, Clifford Bradbury and Ressie Rowley,
grandsons.In the passing of Mrs. Rowley a sad and irreparable loss is sustained by
the husband who for many years shared his joys and sorrows and his hopes
and fears with an ever attentive ever sympathetic and always patient and
loving helpmate, the children and grandchildren a faithful and devoted
mother, while her friends and the community at large are bereft of the
society, wise councels and kindly interest of one who lived not for herself
alone, but for all who came within the spere of her gentle influence. Mr.
A. J. Heeg had the funeral in charge and the internment was in the North
Clinton cemetery. Aside from the chioldren who live away from Waterman and
were able to be present, those from a distance were: Willard and Ira
Marvin from Aurora, Mrs. Clara Drew from Emington, Illinois, Mrs.
Cleveland and Mrs. L. Warren of Big Rock and Mr. and Mrs Isaac Arnold from
Leland, Illinois.
