Whether you are a big company, small business or you just want to build a personal site or page, you will need a server to post your site or page so it will be viewable on line. Some charge and some are available for free, all will have terms you must agree too. So when shopping for your space, pay close attention to their terms of use and make sure there is nothing that you don't agree with.
Here are some things to look for:
Do they offer enough space for your needs?
Do they support CGI?
(CGI is necessary for forms, counters, bulletin boards, chat rooms, etc. However, there are places on the net that offer hosting for some of these items.)Do they offer a shopping cart or other credit card processing?
What about registering your domain name?
(For personal sites with out money making potential and for non-profit organizations there are free redirection services. These usually require you to have advertising for their service, such as a banner, timed page upon entering your site or pop-up ads which can be annoying.)
