Bush Pilot Course

The Bush Pilot Course is designed to teach the basics of bush flying in an appropriate environment. Southeast Alaska provides numerous challenges, both topographic and meteorological. Just finding one's way around is not a trivial exercise. Finding the landing areas which serve as official and unofficial airports in the region requires planning and research.

As well as navigational exercises, somewhat realistic soft field takeoff and landing practice will be included. One will become accustomed to the unreliability of weather forecasts in a bush environment as well as the lack of communications and navigational facilities. How to use a GPS receiver in this context will be covered in detail.

Maintenance considerations and practices will also be included, as well as how to load an airplane so as to safely get maximum operational utility. Regulatory requirements will also be addressed.

A passport is required since there will be trips into Canada. The costs are the same as for the Mountain Flying Course.
