RENTALS
The Cessna 172 is available for rental, as is the Cessna 150. See photos
of both planes below. The Cessna 172 is a four place airplane and is more
roomy than the two place Cessna 150. Although the Cessna 172 has four
seats, four standard sized people and full fuel would result in exceeding
the gross weight limits. This must be taken into account in flight planning.
Insurance is handled by a combination of insurance coverage, which is
handled over the phone and by mail and costs about $1,200.00 per year
for the Cessna 172. The Cessna 150 is substantially less. If insurance
is needed for only six months, a prorated refund can be arranged. This
insurance strategy permits us to offer reasonable rates for the two airplanes.
The Cessna 172 is $120.00 per hour dual and $95.00 per flight hour solo.
The Cessna 150 is $100.00 per hour dual and $75.00 per hour solo. If one
purchases a ten hour block, then one is entitled an additional flight
hour at no additional charge. There is a $30.00 per hour fee for ground
briefing time which is provided in connection with dual flights. Alaska
Flight Center reserves the right to change prices without notice.
A checkout is required, which will be charged at the dual rate. How extensive
the checkout will be is dependent on the renter pilot's background. Both
familiarity with the airplane and the local flight environment is involved.
Southeast Alaska is very different and presents many hazards that are
not common in other states.
Neither airplane is to be used for operations involving off airport landings
nor landings at airports whose runway or runways are not hard surface,
except in emergencies. Exceptions to the hard surface runway restriction
can be made on a case by case basis. No landings are to be made at Snettisham
without prior permission of the airport authority and a checkout from
Alaska Flight Center, except in an emergency.
Flights requiring an overnight stay require prior approval, and there
is a daily minimum flight time requirement. Renters must buy flight time
in advance and in five hour blocks for other than dual flights. They must
also fly at least once every ninety days, or another checkout is required.
