Stitching

Once the planks were all glued, the joints and the remainder of the planks are lightly sanded.

We then started stitching on the table. The first two planks on both sides are shown stitched.

The second set of planks stitched to the first.

We both found it easiest to finish stitching planks three through six with the boat set up on a pair of 6 foot ladders. This photo shows the first four planks (#'s 1 and 2) on the ladders.

This is plank #3 being drilled and stitched..

Note the clamps and board holding the planks as I drill and stitch my way from the front to the back. The planks were labeled with stickers for bow and aft otherwise I might have not known.

Once you have all the planks stitched on, you form the bow stitching from the #1 planks down to the #6 planks. Looks like a forest of copper wire! I estimated we had over 600 pieces of wire holding everything together after the whole boat is stitched.

After the bow is formed, you flip the boat over and stitch in the wineglass stern. As you can see, it takes some work to fit the planks into their positions on the stern.

But the Manual says...

Stern stitched in place from behind the boat.
